After 15 years working weekends, Darlene finally got a new position at the hospital, working weeks. So this was our first opportunity to take her camping with us. We elected to go to Stone Mountain.
On our way up to camp site C, about 2 miles from the trail head. |
We had a late dinner. Once the fire burned down, we threw some pre-made ho-bo meals. |
The next morning started off chilly. We warmed up with coffee, tea or cocoa, depending on your preference. Emily here is enjoying some tea. |
Mason having his breakfast staple - Oatmeal of course. |
After Breakfast, we made our way to the park and here we are on the Stone Mountain Loop Trail making our way to the top for lunch. |
Our Lunch was from this spot, overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background. |
Mason climbing boulders at the Mountain Climbing base. |
Darlene and I at the base of what I've called the "Hugging Tree". It's less impressive in picture, but the two trees have an appearance of hugging, arms(branches) wrapped around each other. |
Back in camp, relaxing in the Hammock |
More Hammock lounging. |
Widow Creek Falls, just off Campsite A. This location is the closest water source for all of the back country campsites. About a steep half mile down from campsite C. |
Canopy shot at the campsite. |
Takeaways:
- Darlene had a nice time on her first campout.
- We had beautiful weather the whole time.
- Hiking in a bundle of wood that first night, with my pack was brutal
- Never saw a Park Ranger in the campsites
- Holly had a hard time sleeping.
- My z-rest sleeping pad just isn't strong enough support for my 200 lbs.
